Alice Thompson’s practice refers to the transitional and fleeting stages in our lifetime and the cast aside nature of clothing. Working with the medium of knit, she references clothes becoming outgrown in certain stages like maternity, by stretching the knitting over frames or repurposed structures. Often knitting on a loose tension so the physical line of the knitted row is seen, specific colour combinations overlap to evoke snippets of memory.
Alice is a Technical Instructor in Yarn at the Royal College of Art and Tutor in Machine Knitting at Working Men’s College.
